The administrators at Sydney Metro take insurance very seriously. We understand that you just want to play ball on the weekend, without having to worry about whether you're taking risks that might see your financial situation in even worse shape than your body, in case of an injury.

We believe we have insurance coverage that is more than adequate for your needs. The links below will take you to the formal documentation, but as this seems to be such a hot topic these days, we've decided to include a little Q&A exercise as well.

[See below]

Our underwriter is Sportscover. See their website at  www.sportscover.com. The policy covers Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Capital Benefits, Accident, and limited Loss of Income. Download the documents at right. If you are injured, please carefully read the instructions in the Accident Claim Pack.

Insurance Q & A....
The ABF and Baseball NSW both say that Sydney Metro is "unaffiliated", and that I should be cautious about insurance. What does this mean?Simply put, our League is not a member of NSW Baseball nor the ABF. This means we are not covered by the ABF national insurance policy.
So, if Sydney Metro isn't covered by the sport's national insurance policy, what have you done instead? We've arranged insurance for our member clubs, based on our expected player numbers and claims history.
The Sydney Metro insurance seems too cheap compared to the ABF and NSWBL structures. What's the catch? We can't answer that. We think our costs are reasonable. If you think there's too great a difference in the dollars, we suggest you ask NSWBL and the ABF why their costs are so much higher than ours.
Who is the Sydney Metro underwriter?Sportscover. ACN 006 637 703. See www.sportscover.com - they are one of the leaders in this field, worldwide.
Who from my club is covered?Players, officials, groundskeepers, coaches:- basically, any volunteers associated with training or the game.
What about umpires?Yes, absolutely. Whether they come from your club or if they're assigned by The League, as long as they are not being paid. As volunteers they are entitled to receive expenses. If they were being paid, they would be declaring income on their tax returns and someone (perhaps their Umpires Association or the ABF) would need to carry Workers' Comp Insurance for them.
Does the Sydney Metro insurance apply to paid employees of my club? Like canteen workers, for example? No. Like the situation with paid umpires, you stil need to carry appropriate Workers' Comp insurance as well. It doesn't matter whether the workers are kids or not.
What does "Public Liability"mean?Public Liablity insurance covers "property damage and personal injury" to people who are not associated with the game itself, but who suffer some downside as a result of us playing baseball where we are found to be negligent.
Sydney Metro offers Medical & Accident insurance. Is this worth the cost?We think it is. Under the NSWBL/ABF policy, you're covered only for Capital Benefits (death or various bits of your body ceasing to function or falling off, permanently). Our M&A cover is set up for accident or injury when you're expected to get better, eventually.
Does this insurance cover me for ALL costs associated with injuries in playing? No. Medicare will cover some costs. Any private health insurance you have will cover some more. This insurance is designed to cover part of the gap between what you're able to claim personally from elsewhere, and the total cost to you. You should expect to be out of pocket to some extent.
What about "Loss of Income"? What does this mean?It means that adults involved in the game can claim if they're off work by reason of injury associated with the game. Read the policy wording. It will generally be far less than you actually earn by being at work, but in times of crisis it should be of some help.
